Growing up, she was the eldest of seven children, though sadly, only five of them are still living.

Unfortunately, Josephine's formal education ended after the sixth grade. Due to difficult life circumstances, she was unable to continue her schooling and left at that level, since her parents were just engaged in farming.

Josephine married and moved to Migori County. During her time there, she had four children. However, the marriage eventually became unsustainable, and she returned to her family home in Kakamega. The challenge was that the husband was never around.

Of her four children, two are daughters who are now married. Her sons are also grown but live away from home, working casual jobs. They’re just outside home doing small jobs.

Before joining Mama Ibado, Josephine engaged in small-scale trading, selling tomatoes and vegetables to earn a living. However, she had to stop because the trading was not doing well and she could not make ends meet. She now helps at a nursery school in Stage Maandazi, Lurambi, assisting with stirring porridge for the children.

A turning point came when Josephine connected with Mama Ibado through her church. A member who worked with the organization directed her to the program. She filled out the necessary forms, submitted them to the assistant chief, and was then directed to Amalemba.

As a beneficiary, Josephine receives essential food items such as ugali flour, sugar, uji flour, rice, salt, and cooking oil. She expresses deep gratitude for this assistance, particularly because she is now caring for grandchildren whose father passed away.

"I thank Mama Ibado for helping because the food helps me, even with the grandchildren I have now because their father died. I live with them, and it helps me a lot. I would have had problems, but it helps me a lot," she said.

Thanks to the provisions of the charity, she does not stress as much when it comes to the availability of food.

Despite the food assistance from Mama Ibado, Josephine still requires support. Any assistance will ensure her well-being and enable her to continue caring for her grandchildren.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0720/8324/3263/files/p4SF6x-iTgqDfy4q3sf4f3a4XKFWffKDRdBdKKYqXWE.jpg?v=1772218904
