obara-pascal-francis
OBARA PASCAL FRANCIS

Born in 1946 in Budalangi, Busia County, eighty-year-old Pascal Obara moved with his family to Amalemba, Kakamega County, where he was raised. Growing up as the second oldest in a lively household of fifteen children, he developed a deep sense of responsibility from a very young age.

He attended school within Kakamega and successfully completed his studies up to Form Four. Upon finishing his education, he secured a formal role with the Ministry of Works. This achievement allowed him to begin his adult life with a clear purpose and a steady path.

Pascal worked faithfully for the Ministry of Works from 1970 until his retirement in the year 2000. Following his retirement, he attempted to run a small business to sustain his family, but the venture was not successful. He married in 1970 and raised five children, though the family often faced moments where food was scarce.

"In the past, my days were defined by the heavy weight of uncertainty, but today, that burden has been replaced by a sense of security and hope for my grandchildren," he said.

This sense of security is vital now that he has relocated to Busia. He moved there after being evicted from Otiende Estate in Kakamega to pave way for the development of affordable housing.

His life changed for the better when Muslim friends introduced him to the Mama Ibado Charity. After being registered, he began receiving regular donations of rice, sugar, oil, and flour. He also receives fortified porridge flour which is essential for the health of the young grandchildren in his care.

"The stability provided by this program has allowed me to shift my focus from basic survival to the long-term well-being and education of the children in my care," notes Pascal.

The consistent supply of food has removed the stress of an empty kitchen. This help allows him to use his limited strength to guide his family through their current relocation.

Pascal still needs continued help because he is the sole guardian of six grandchildren currently under his custody. Since his adult children have not yet secured employment, the responsibility of providing for these young ones falls entirely on his shoulders. This support is the only way he can ensure his grandchildren stay healthy and remain in school.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0720/8324/3263/files/giGJLwAOMq_qXB3IzSLFsOn11LU_vPDyZecjs1kt07E.jpg?v=1770716094
