A Joyous Step Forward: Launching the Seniors Healthcare Program in Kakamega
On a bright and lively morning in Kakamega, the air buzzed with excitement as we launched the much-anticipated Seniors Healthcare Program at Mama Ibado Charity (MIC). It was a day filled with music, celebration, and purpose—a testament to the strength and resilience of the seniors in our care.
Despite facing various health challenges, many of the seniors couldn't resist breaking into dance, embodying the joy and hope this new program brings. This moment marked a significant milestone in our mission to provide holistic care for the elderly, ensuring their well-being extends beyond food security to include access to vital healthcare services.
The Seniors Healthcare Program in Kakamega is designed to meet the unique medical needs of the elderly population in this region. It encompasses:
- Medical Insurance for 30 seniors: These beneficiaries who were selected based on their need for constant medical intervention now have access to comprehensive medical coverage, providing peace of mind for them and their families.
- Weekly Clinics: Every Thursday, all 300 seniors enrolled in our Kakamega branch are eligible to attend a clinic staffed by a clinical officer. They can seek medical advice, access medications, and receive the care they deserve.
This program ensures that seniors no longer have to suffer in silence or delay seeking medical attention due to financial constraints.
In celebration of the program’s launch, and in recognition of World Heart Day observed the previous day, we partnered with Oasis Multi-Specialty Hospital Kakamega to focus on educating seniors about heart health. Cardiovascular conditions are a significant concern among the elderly, and this partnership ensured the seniors gained valuable knowledge about prevention and management.
