Who We Are
Mama Ibado Charity (MIC) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation registered in Canada (Charity Registration No. 825737281RR0001) and Kenya, dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable seniors and upholding their dignity as they age.
Founded in 2011, MIC carries forward the legacy of Mama Ibado Haji Osman, whose compassion for older people in her community inspired a lasting commitment to care and service.
Our Story
Mama Ibado witnessed the challenges faced by older men and women living in poverty. Many struggled to access adequate food, healthcare, safe housing and basic necessities. Some depended on relatives who were themselves facing financial hardship, while others were raising grandchildren with little support.
She believed these seniors deserved to live with dignity, comfort and a sense of belonging. Despite her own limited resources, she found ways to help, offering practical support through everyday acts of kindness and generosity.
Following her passing in 2009, her children committed to continuing her work. In 2011, they established Mama Ibado Charity, transforming their mother’s compassion into an enduring mission: to ensure vulnerable seniors have the support they need to age with dignity.
What We Do
We work alongside seniors, communities and partners to address the needs that shape well-being in later life. Our programmes provide:
- Food and nutrition: Monthly food baskets that help seniors access regular, nutritious meals.
- Healthcare: Regular clinics, essential medical support and assistance accessing healthcare coverage.
- Housing: Safe, dignified homes that offer security, comfort and improved sanitation.
- Community and connection: Opportunities for companionship, participation and support through the Mama Ibado Wazee Wetu Centre.
- Sustainable support: Initiatives that strengthen our ability to care for seniors over the long term.
Our approach recognises seniors as individuals with their own experiences, voices and choices. We are guided by a simple belief: every older person deserves dignity, respect, security and the opportunity to remain connected to their community.
Our Commitment to Donors
Transparency and accountability guide how we use the support entrusted to us.
100% of public donations designated for our charitable programmes go directly to those programmes. Operational and administrative costs are funded separately, ensuring these contributions support the seniors and communities we serve.
Every contribution helps sustain practical, consistent care—from food and healthcare to safe housing and community support.
