Abdi Boso Boru

Born in 1958 in Isiolo, Abdi’s life has been shaped by struggle and endurance. He never had the opportunity to attend school and spent his childhood herding cattle at a company in Manyangalo, Meru County. For 28 years, he worked tirelessly, dedicating himself to a life of labor before eventually leaving.
At 35, he entered his first marriage, hoping to build a family. However, when the couple was unable to have children, tensions grew, leading to a painful divorce.

Seeking a fresh start, Abdi moved to Isiolo in 1997, where he remarried. This time, he and his wife were blessed with seven children—two daughters and five sons. To provide for them, he took on various social labor jobs, working hard to ensure his family never went without. But life’s hardships were far from over.
Over time, Abdi developed diabetes, and his health deteriorated rapidly. He was admitted to the hospital for a year and a half, unable to work or support his family. As if this wasn’t enough, his wife began suffering from mental illness, adding another layer of hardship to his already difficult life.

Struggling under the weight of poverty and stress, her condition worsened. One day, she left home and never returned, vanishing without a trace. Abdi was left alone to raise their seven children, battling illness and financial struggles without any support.

With no stable income, he relied on the kindness of well-wishers and neighbors to feed his children. Some nights, they went to bed hungry. The challenges of providing for them in a one-room house donated by a well-wisher were overwhelming, but he refused to give up.
For the past one and a half years, Abdi has been a beneficiary of Mama Ibado Charity’s (MIC) feeding program, receiving much-needed food assistance to help sustain his family.
