Abduba Sarite Boru

Born in 1947 in Garbatulla, Abduba Boru grew up as one of nine siblings in a family deeply affected by tragedy. At just six years old, his family and clan were forcibly relocated to concentration camps by the government. It was during this harrowing period that his mother succumbed to illness. Orphaned and impoverished, Abduba spent his childhood herding their meager livestock, navigating a life of hardship.

Years later, after bandits stole the family’s remaining livestock, Abduba moved to Isiolo Town. With no formal education or skills, he eked out a living through casual labor. He eventually married and had six children—two daughters and four sons. However, poverty’s relentless grip strained the family, and his wife left, returning to her parents’ home. Abduba was left to raise their children alone.
Today, although his children are grown, they face challenges of their own. None have stable jobs to support the family, and some have been affected by substance abuse. Abduba, who is disabled, now lives in Bula Pesa Ward with three of his children and two grandchildren. At over 70 years old, he still resorts to begging in town to provide for his family.

Mama Ibado Charity intervened in Abduba’s life by enrolling him into the Seniors Feeding Program. The monthly food rations provided by MIC have become a lifeline for him and his family. He proudly shares that the program ensures his grandchildren remain in school, as they can count on having at least one meal at home each day. While Abduba still relies on occasional help from friends and relatives, the feeding program has significantly reduced his need to beg.
