ANYESI LOKOI

Anyesi Lokai’s life is a story of perseverance shaped by loss, hardship, and unwavering hope. Born and raised behind the mountains of Isiolo, she grew up in a pastoralist household, surrounded by livestock and the rhythms of rural life. Her early years were peaceful, yet fragile, until tribal clashes swept through the region, disrupting her childhood and forcing her family to flee for safety. They spent months away from home, living under uncertain conditions, before finally returning to Isiolo, hoping to rebuild what had been lost.

It was here that Anyesi married and began raising her family. Over time, she was blessed with six children. But tragedy struck repeatedly, she lost two of her children at a young age, leaving her with four two boys and two girls, to care for. These losses weighed heavily on her, yet she remained steadfast in her commitment to her surviving family.

To provide for them, Anyesi first made and sold changaa, a task she took on with quiet determination despite its challenges. Later, she turned to burning charcoal to earn a living. Every day was a test of endurance; there were times when she went nearly three days without a meal herself, struggling to ensure her children were fed and sent to school. Her life was defined by sacrifice, hard work, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.

Anyesi’s life took a transformative turn when she began receiving support from Mama Ibado Charity. The food assistance provided not just nourishment, but relief and stability for her family. It allowed her to care for her children and grandchildren without the constant fear of hunger, and gave her moments of rest in a life that had been marked by relentless struggle. The support also brought emotional comfort, reminding her that she was not alone in her journey.

Today, Anyesi expresses profound gratitude for the support she receives. “Without Mama Ibado Charity,” she says, “we would truly be struggling.” She prays that God continues to bless the organization, enabling them to support families like hers and reach even more seniors in need.
