AWINJA AZINA RAJAB

Asina Rajab Awinja was born in 1958 in Kisa-Khwisero, Kakamega County. As the youngest of six children, she never had the chance to know her parents; her mother passed away shortly after her birth, leaving her to be raised by her elder sister in Butere and the Makongeni area of Nairobi.

Through her sister’s support, Asina attended school and completed her primary education. She progressed to Form Two, but her education came to an end at that level because the family could no longer afford the required school fees.

Following her school years, she lived with her siblings in various towns, including Eldoret and Kakamega. During her time in Eldoret, she faced a difficult situation where her only child was taken away by the father, and she was never blessed with other children. She eventually settled in Kakamega, where she worked in shops and took on other casual jobs to survive alongside her current partner. For many years, they lived in severe hardship, depending on manual labor and chance to find their next meal.

Her circumstances changed during a past Ramadan when she met Naima, a representative from the Mama Ibado Charity. Naima visited her home, helped her register for the senior support program, and even provided 200 shillings to pay for her registration photos. This intervention marked the beginning of a more stable life for Asina.

Today, she receives essential monthly food supplies, including flour, rice, milk, sugar, and cooking oil. In addition to the nutritional support, she benefits from the organization’s health program, which allows her to visit the clinic every Thursday for a regular medical check-up to ensure she stays healthy.

"In the past, my life was defined by the constant struggle to find food, but since joining the program, I have a consistent supply of nourishment that has brought stability and peace to my home," said Asina Rajab Awinja.

"Before the charity intervened, I lived in uncertainty and hunger, but today I am cared for through regular food rations and weekly healthcare that keeps me strong," said Asina Rajab Awinja.

Asina remains in need of continued assistance because she lacks a family support network to fall back on. Having no children to care for her and lacking the physical strength for manual labor, she relies entirely on the charity’s support to meet her basic nutritional and medical needs.
