Ayekha Pamela Achitsa

Ayekha Pamelah Achitsa, from Matopeni Village in Shirere Sub-location, has endured a life shaped by sacrifice, loss, and resilience. As the only daughter in her family, she was denied the opportunity to attend school and instead spent her days performing domestic duties to support her family. Under her mother’s guidance, she learned essential home tasks, preparing her for the responsibilities of adulthood.

As she built her own family, tragedy struck, and one by one, she lost all her loved ones, eventually becoming a widow with no immediate family to turn to. The pain of losing her husband was made worse by the hostility of her in-laws, who attempted to force her out of her marital home. Had it not been for the intervention of a local administration official, she would have been left completely homeless. However, she was only allowed to keep a small portion of land, too tiny for farming or any meaningful economic activity.

Stripped of stability and left in poverty, Pamela’s house began to decay, and her health deteriorated. Suffering from high blood pressure and arthritis, her ability to work became impossible. With no income and no agricultural production, she relied on occasional donations, but many days, there was simply not enough food, and she was forced to endure hunger.

In 2023, a turning point came when Pamela was enrolled in the Mama Ibado Charity (MIC) seniors’ feeding program. Receiving monthly food rations has greatly improved her household food security, ensuring that she no longer has to worry about where her next meal will come from.

Pamela also attends healthcare clinics through MIC, where she receives treatment and support for her health conditions. With regular care and proper nutrition, her health has improved, allowing her to face each day with renewed strength.

Though life has tested her in unimaginable ways, Pamela still carries a quiet resilience, knowing that she no longer has to struggle alone.

“For the first time in years, I don’t have to wonder where my next meal will come from. I am deeply grateful,” she shares.
