Catherine Ayuku

Meet Ayuku Catherine 72 years old is a resident at Majengo slums, Kakamega County. She’s been bedridden for 32 years due to road accident. Since then, she has found it difficult to provide for her family and remains poor and needy.
Catherine is old and disabled. Physically unable to leave her bed due to illness, weakness requiring special care and attention to prevent complications and maintain well-being. She has bedsores, also known as pressure ulcers, and are one of the most prevalent complications, she has developed respiratory complications, pneumonia due to shallow breathing and reduced lung function.  Immobility has disrupted normal bodily functions for Catherine leading to urinary tract infections and constipation. 

Her two grandchildren assist her when they feel like, as children they believe she is a burden to the family. She has a friend also a neighbor who loves to assist her, Sarah would spend sometimes cleaning and washing for her. This makes Catherine happy and she forgets about her problems.

Through the Mamaibado Charity recruitment she was considered and because of the gravity of her condition she was enrolled into the senior feeding program in August 2018 and has been receiving food that has improved her Health, reduced financial pressure and made her excited. Apart from the Food she is also a beneficiary of the health Program, which is facilitating his Health Insurance and connecting her with the formal health care facilities where her medical needs will be Addressed.
