In the heart of Amalemba, Majengo Slums of Kakamega Town lives Esther Juma, a 69-year-old woman whose life story is a testament to unwavering resilience in the face of relentless adversity. From a childhood marked by hardship to a challenging adulthood, Esther's journey reflects the struggles of many, yet her spirit remains unbroken.

Born the eldest of ten children; four girls and six boys, Esther’s early life was anything but easy. Seven of her siblings passed away, leaving just three of them: two sisters and one brother. Her parents, with limited means, struggled to provide. Her father, who lacked formal education and relied on manual labor and odd jobs, left home for Nairobi in 1960 and never returned. This abrupt departure thrust the entire burden of the family onto Esther's mother, who took on various odd jobs in the village to sustain them.

"My life was full of challenges," Esther recalls, the weight of those early years still palpable in her voice. The necessity of caring for her younger siblings meant Esther herself never had the chance to attend school. Her days were spent nurturing her brothers and sisters while her mother toiled to put food on the table.

In August 1972, Esther got married. She and her husband were blessed with ten children, though sadly, two of them passed away. The financial struggles continued; her husband remained unemployed until 1980 when he finally secured a job. However, this period of stability was tragically cut short in the 1990s when an accident left him unable to work. "From that point on, we faced immense hardship," Esther shares, a quiet strength in her words. Her husband passed away in 2001, leaving Esther to navigate life's complexities on her own.
Despite the profound losses and persistent challenges, Esther's gratitude shines through when she speaks of the Mama Ibado Charity. "I am grateful to Mama Ibado Charity," she says, a genuine warmth entering her voice. The charity has become a vital lifeline, providing essential food items that make an immeasurable difference in her daily life.
Beyond food, Mama Ibado Charity also extends crucial medical care through its weekly health clinics. Esther, who suffered from a debilitating swollen leg that severely limited her mobility and prevented her from performing daily tasks, found relief and healing through their support. "But now, thanks to Mama Ibado Medical Help, I'm able to perform my normal functions, and I feel much better," she explains, her words filled with renewed hope.

"May God bless them and grant them wisdom," Esther prays for the charity. "May they be granted longevity, and as they seek support to continue their invaluable work, we pray for the success of their endeavors." Her heartfelt words are a testament to the transformative power of kindness and a hopeful prayer for the continued success of those who uplift others.
