Fatuma Said was born and raised in Isiolo County, where she spent her early years learning the values of hard work and perseverance. Her childhood was marked by tragedy when she was living with her sister’s children, six of whom, ranging in age from two years old to a teenager completing secondary school, sadly passed away. These losses brought immense grief, yet Fatuma remained determined to continue her life with dignity and strength.

To support herself, Fatuma relied on her sewing skills. She makes clothes using a sewing machine that is placed next to her bed, enabling her to work despite her disability and limited mobility. Sewing became not just a source of income but a way for Fatuma to maintain independence and contribute...

Her circumstances began to change when a friend, Farthosa, recognized her struggles and introduced her to Mama Ibado Charity. Understanding that Fatuma could not advocate for herself, Farthosa spoke to the charity on her behalf. Through their support, Fatuma gained access to essential services that transformed her life. She now receives regular food support at the beginning of every month, access to medication and healthcare, and a safe place to live.

Previously, Fatuma had lived in a dilapidated home in the same area. Through the generosity of a supportive landowner, she was provided with a house where she could stay safely while continuing to care for the land and paying a modest rent. Though she no longer has the same energy for sewing as before, Fatuma continues to work at her machine with determination and gratitude, maintaining her independence and dignity.

Faith has played a central role in Fatuma’s journey. She attributes her path to God’s guidance and prays that Mama Ibado Charity will continue to bless and support other vulnerable seniors, just as it has supported her. Today, Fatuma remains deeply grateful for the consistent help she receives, recognizing the ways in which food, healthcare, shelter, and compassionate support have improved her life.
