Halima Abdi’s life is a story shaped by change, loss, resilience, and the quiet strength of a woman who has spent most of her years enduring rather than complaining. She remembers her early years as a time when life was good. Before hardship became familiar, she says life felt stable and peaceful, and those memories remain vivid in her mind. It was a period where she could still imagine a steady future, long before the struggles that would later define much of her journey.

As life changed, so did everything around her. She became a mother and built her life around her children, holding onto the responsibility of raising them despite growing challenges. She recalls the joy of having her firstborn child, a moment that brought meaning and hope into her life. They lived together for some time, but later, she experienced the painful loss of that child. That loss marked a turning point in her life, one that brought deep grief but also strengthened her endurance. Later, another of her sons moved to Mombasa. She held onto hope, but after some time, he also passed away. These repeated losses weighed heavily on her heart, leaving her with memories that are difficult to put into words. Today, she remains with two sons. One stays close and supports her by collecting her food from the office, while the other lives in Mombasa, though she does not know his whereabouts.

In her earlier years, Halima worked hard to survive. She would walk to people’s homes and wash clothes, earning whatever she could to support her family. It was physically demanding work, but she did it faithfully to ensure her children were cared for. As time passed, her strength declined, and she could no longer continue with the same kind of labor.

Her situation changed when Mama Ibado Charity visited her home. They found her sick and in bed, unwell compared to how she is today. That moment became a turning point in her life. She was registered as a beneficiary and began receiving food support. Since then, she has continued to receive assistance every month without interruption for about six years. This consistent support has brought stability into her life. It has eased the daily burden of survival and given her dignity in moments of illness and weakness. She no longer faces each day with the same uncertainty she once did.

Halima describes her gratitude in simple but powerful words: “I am grateful for the support I receive. I have been receiving food every month without fail, and it has given me peace in my life. I thank God for the strength of those who continue to support us.”
