Halima Isaak’s life has been one marked by hardship, but through it all, she has demonstrated extraordinary strength. At just 15 years old, she was forced into marriage by her father, becoming the second wife to a cruel 50-year-old man. With no voice to challenge her father’s decision, Halima entered this violent marriage, her heart heavy with sorrow. Her husband’s cruelty knew no bounds, and Halima bore the brunt of his violent outbursts and harsh words.

Despite the constant abuse, Halima endured, giving birth to six children in quick succession. But when her husband passed away, Halima, though scared, chose to forgive him. Left alone to care for her children, she was determined to survive. With no other choice, Halima built a small wooden restaurant, waking at 2 am every morning to prepare meals for her children and her customers. By 6 am, she had sent her children to school and opened her restaurant. She worked tirelessly, finding strength in her determination to provide for her family. "Instead of begging, I preferred burning my hands in the kitchen," she once said, a proud smile crossing her face as she reflected on her struggles.

For 20 years, Halima's business was the cornerstone of her family's survival. But five years ago, tragedy struck when she fell and shattered her knee in the marketplace. Unable to afford medical treatment, Halima relied on traditional remedies, but the injury worsened, and her life began to unravel. Her business closed, and one by one, all of her children—except for two—abandoned her. She tried cooking for blacksmiths near her home, but even that effort failed. Left with little but time, Halima resigned herself to watching the days pass by.
