HAMISI AMINA MUNYENDO

Hamisi Amina Munyendo was born in 1923 in the Ebuwanga area of Mumias Sub-county. She was raised in a household of five children, being one of four sisters and one brother.

She did not attend school during her childhood because, at the time, the value of formal education was not widely recognized in her community. Instead of sitting in a classroom, she spent her early years learning the skills of a farmer to help her family survive.

After her time at home, she moved to Lwesero to be married to her husband, the late Hamisi Nonda. As a young wife, she dedicated herself to manual labor in the fields, working alongside her husband, who was a farmer and a local elder.

Life became a difficult struggle as they worked to raise their five sons with no formal employment or steady income. The family often faced periods of severe hunger, and after her husband passed away, Amina was left to shoulder the burden of providing for the household alone.

To keep her family fed, she became a small-scale trader, traveling to buy omena and tomatoes to resell in the local markets. She pushed herself to do this heavy work for many years until age and illness finally robbed her of the strength to walk or carry her wares.

Amina suffered from the loss of four of her five sons, leaving her with only one surviving son, Ibrahim Hamisi Nonda, who now cares for her. Living with painful arthritis that makes movement nearly impossible, she found herself in a desperate situation where even getting basic maize flour was a daily challenge.

She was introduced to the program through her local mosque, where she had been a dedicated member for many years. After the community noticed her physical decline, Mama Ibado field officers visited her at home and registered her on April 1, 2023.

"The arrival of this support has allowed my family to breathe again after years of wondering where the next meal would come from. This assistance ensures my mother is fed and cared for, lifting a heavy weight from our hearts and giving us peace."

Today, Amina receives a monthly food basket containing maize flour, porridge flour, rice, sugar, milk, tea leaves, and cooking oil. This consistent supply has stabilized her nutrition and allowed her son to focus his limited energy on providing other essential care for her.

Amina remains in urgent need of help because her extreme age and severe arthritis leave her completely bedridden and dependent. Without this continued support, her household would have no way to provide the nutrition and care required for a woman of her advanced years.
