Ismael Abdi Ragge

Born in Kipsing, Isiolo County, Ismael Abdi Rage’s life has been a journey of endurance and adaptation. The third-born in a family of seven, he spent his early years attending Madrassa while helping his parents herd cattle—a way of life deeply rooted in his community. At 29, he married and became a father to eight children, though only four are alive today.

For years, herding cattle sustained his family, but life took a devastating turn when clan wars led to the loss of all their livestock. Left with no means to provide, Ismael was forced to start over. He turned to mechanical work, gradually learning new skills and eventually training as a bus driver. His determination to adapt allowed him to continue supporting his family.
However, time and hardship took their toll. Hypertension, diabetes, and worsening eye problems made it impossible for him to work. The responsibility of providing shifted to his wife, who took on daily labor jobs to keep the household afloat. But tragedy struck again—she fell ill and passed away after a short illness, leaving Ismael to face life’s struggles alone.

With his children living far away and none employed, he had no one to rely on. Well-wishers and neighbors helped where they could, but his situation remained dire. Desperate for assistance, Ismael approached Mama Ibado Charity, where he shared his story. Recognizing his vulnerability, he was enrolled in the seniors' feeding and healthcare program, offering him some stability in his old age.
Today, Ismael lives with his daughter, who is also unwell. As the years continue to pass, he depends on the food and medical support he receives, ensuring he can face each day with dignity.
