KHADIJA HASSAN ABDI

Khadija Hussein Abdi was born in Isiolo, in the heart of the Bula Pesa area. From a young age, she learned the value of hard work and resilience. She grew up in a humble family where resources were limited, but her determination to care for her loved ones never wavered. As she grew older, Khadija embraced her role as a mother, raising her children with unwavering dedication. To make ends meet and provide for her family, she sold Miraa, a livelihood that allowed her to feed her children and keep a roof over their heads.

With the little she earned, Khadija was able to purchase a piece of land and build her own house, marking a significant milestone in her life. She also built a small shop at the market, which became another source of income to sustain her growing family. Life seemed to have a balance, even amid the challenges of raising children and managing a household with limited means.

However, tragedy struck when the conflict between the Borana and Turkana communities erupted. Unfortunately, everything she had worked tirelessly to build was destroyed. Her house and shop were torn down, and all the materials she had painstakingly gathered were taken. In an instant, Khadija and her children were left with nothing, with no home to return to and no source of income to rely on.

In the midst of this devastation, a neighbor extended a hand of compassion. They offered Khadija and her children a place to stay temporarily, asking them to remain there until they could rebuild their own home. It was a small but significant relief during a time of immense uncertainty and hardship.

During this period, the team from Mama Ibado Charity visited Khadija’s home. Upon seeing the dire situation she and her children were facing, they immediately enrolled her as a beneficiary. From that day on, Khadija began receiving monthly food supplies, which brought a sense of relief and stability to her household. While the food sometimes does not last the entire month, it provides a critical lifeline, helping her feed her family and survive during difficult times.

On top of the support from Mama Ibado Charity, her children often take on small jobs to earn extra money to supplement the household’s food and essentials. Khadija also receives medication from the charity, ensuring that her health needs are not neglected even in her old age. Despite all the hardships, Khadija remains deeply grateful for the assistance she receives. She prays daily for Mama Ibado Charity, wishing that God continues to bless the organization and everyone involved so they can continue helping seniors like her.

Today, Khadija faces the dual challenges of advancing age and limited resources, yet she carries on with courage and hope. The support from Mama Ibado Charity has brought light into her life during a period of darkness, offering her dignity, relief, and a renewed sense of security. But her journey is far from over, and her needs remain pressing. With continued support, Khadija can live her remaining years with the comfort, care, and respect she deserves.
