Khaemba Agatha Lungasto

Khaemba Agatha Lungasto was born in 1947 in Ikolomani, Kakamega County. She grew up in a household of eight children, where her parents worked hard to care for their family.

She was unable to attend school because her family could not afford the required school fees. Without an education, her daily life focused on assisting her parents with their survival.

She remained at home during her youth, helping her family by cultivating their land and doing domestic work. Tilling the soil for food was her primary occupation before she reached the age of marriage.

She later got married and moved to Bukhulunya, where she and her husband welcomed four children, consisting of three daughters and one son.

Her husband worked as a casual laborer, moving around to till land for others, which meant food was difficult to secure regularly and the family sometimes went to bed hungry.

After her husband passed away, life became much more difficult, and her children eventually grew up, finished basic schooling, and moved away to look for irregular work to support their own families.

Now, Agatha lives in a crumbling mud house in Shirere, where she holds the heavy responsibility of raising three young grandchildren who depend entirely on her. She tried to support them through manual farm labor, but severe health conditions over the decades caused her to develop high blood pressure, ulcers, and a severe ear problem that left her completely deaf.

A village elder changed the direction of her life when he visited her home, observed her severe deafness, and saw how her grandchildren lacked food. He introduced her to Mama Ibado Charity (MIC), later on Mama Ibado visited her home, assessed her situation, and enrolled her to the seniors feeding programme. She now receives regular monthly deliveries of maize flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, and milk.

The consistent supply of these provisions stabilized the home, bringing relief to a household that had been struggling deeply.

This timely nutritional support took the pressure off Agatha's failing health, allowing her grandchildren to grow up with food on the table. The daily worry of where to find food has been replaced with security.

Agatha still needs continuous help because her advanced age of 79, combined with her complete hearing loss and ulcers, prevents her from doing any work. Ongoing donor support is necessary to keep this household safe and ensure her three grandchildren do not face severe hunger again.
