KITONYE ALEXANDER NGAYO

Kitonye Alexander Ngayo was born in 1949 in the village of Rosterman, Shinyalu. He grew up as the only boy among four children, flanked by three sisters.

His journey through education began with hope, but it was cut short when he was only in standard four. His father passed away that year, and his mother lacked the financial ability to pay the school fees required to keep him in the classroom.

With the doors of the school closed, he began wandering in search of any work he could find to help his struggling mother. He spent his youth performing manual labor, primarily tilling the farms of neighbors to earn a few shillings for their survival.

He eventually married and was blessed with two daughters, but the weight of extreme poverty soon tore his family apart. His wife, seeing that he had no property or steady income, left him and took both children with her many years ago.

He has never seen his daughters since that day, leaving a void in his life as he aged without the support of his children. He eventually married a second wife, and while they have no children together, she remains his only companion.

For decades, Kitonye supported himself and his wife through grueling casual labor, including construction work and farm tilling. The struggle intensified after his mother also passed away, leaving him to face the uncertainty of aging while living in a place often called "Matopeni" due to its muddy and difficult conditions.

The days grew darker as his physical strength began to fail, making it impossible to secure the manual jobs he relied on for food. He and his wife often faced nights of total hunger, as they had no stable income and no children to send them help.

His breakthrough came when a local village elder noticed his desperate situation during a community gathering. The elder took him to the Mama Ibado Charity offices, where the team assessed his home and officially enrolled him in the seniors' program on May 8, 2019.

Today, Kitonye receives monthly rations of rice, maize flour, porridge flour, sugar, cooking oil, and tea leaves. This consistent supply has brought peace to his household, ensuring that the fire in his kitchen is never extinguished by lack of funds.

"I lived a life of wandering and heavy labor just to find one meal, but now I have the dignity of a full plate and a heart free from the stress of hunger."

This support has allowed him to focus on his health and aging gracefully alongside his wife, without the terror of starvation. The intervention has restored a sense of value to his life that he thought was lost when his family left him.

Kitonye still needs help because he is an elderly man with three dependents and no remaining physical strength to perform manual labor. Without surviving children to look after him, the continued support of donors is the only thing standing between him and the return of a life of begging.
