Kuno Waba

Born into poverty, Kuno’s life has been a continuous battle for survival. His father, a daily wage laborer, and his mother, a homemaker, worked hard to provide for their family. Despite financial struggles, they valued education, hoping it would be their son’s path to a better future.
That hope was shattered when Kuno lost his father while in class five. Left to raise her children alone, his mother did her best, but their lives became unstable, moving from place to place. The instability forced Kuno to drop out of school, leaving his dreams behind to help sustain the family. He took up work as a herder, earning just enough to put food on the table.

As the years passed, another crisis struck, forcing the family to relocate to Isiolo Town. With nowhere to go and no resources, they arrived without furniture, utensils, or financial stability. A relative in Bula Pesa offered them a place to stay, but the hardship weighed heavily on Kuno and his mother. Once again, he turned to herding, earning just enough to get by.

In time, he married and was blessed with two children, but both passed away at a tender age. Grief and struggle followed him. One day, while herding, he was attacked by a buffalo and left badly injured. Unable to work and provide for his family, his wife left him, unwilling to endure a life of poverty.

Despite the heartbreak, Kuno remarried and had three more children—two daughters and a son. He and his wife cared for his elderly mother, who had become a beneficiary of Mama Ibado Charity’s feeding program. She remained under his care until she passed away at 102 years old.

In February 2022, Mama Ibado Charity (MIC) enrolled Kuno into the feeding program, taking his mother’s place as a beneficiary. The monthly food rations have provided some relief, though challenges persist for his family.
