LIGARE CLEMENT MUKOTO

Ligare Clement Mukoto was born in 1948 in the Amalemba, Kakamega County. He grew up as one of four children in a household where his parents struggled to make ends meet through subsistence farming.

As a young boy, he shared the limited resources available with his three siblings while navigating a humble upbringing.

He began his education with high hopes but was only able to reach Standard 3. In 1958, his schooling came to an end because his family could no longer afford to pay the required school fees. This lack of financial means forced him to leave the classroom behind much earlier than he had anticipated.

After leaving school, Ligare sought out manual labor to support himself and his family. He trained as a skilled craftsman, focusing on the construction of traditional houses with grass-thatched roofs. He moved from one homestead to another, providing this essential labor in exchange for a small income.

Ligare married his wife in 1971 and together they were blessed with five sons. To provide for his growing family, he transitioned from construction to barbering, though life remained a constant struggle. The family often faced the harsh reality of food insecurity, and the physical toll of his work eventually caused his hands to fail, leaving him unable to work.

He found a breakthrough when the local Sub-Chief directed him to the Amalemba office to meet a coordinator of the Mama Ibado Charity. After sharing his history of disability and hardship, he was registered into the Mama Ibado Feeding Program.

Through this initiative, Ligare now receives regular supplies of maize flour, rice, sugar, tea leaves, and porridge flour.

"Having a consistent source of nourishment has replaced my daily anxiety with a profound sense of peace and joy," noted Ligare Clement Mukoto.

He is deeply grateful to the program for protecting his life and providing the care he could not afford on his own. The presence of Mama Ibado team has turned his years of isolation into a season of community and support.

Ligare requires continued assistance because his physical disability is permanent and prevents him from engaging in any form of gainful employment. With his children scattered or struggling themselves, he relies entirely on this external support to manage his chronic pain and maintain his basic survival.
