MADEGWA ANJELINA INDASI

Angelina Indasi Madegwa was born in 1957 in Sheywe, Kakamega County. Due to her father's severe eye problems, she never attended school, starting a life of manual work instead.

Hoping for better chances, she lived with her step-sister in Kabaras for a time. Upon returning home, she realized that basic tasks like fetching water were not enough for survival, leading her to marry.

Married life quickly became hard, marked by constant, violent conflict with her husband. Though having children was difficult at first, Angelina eventually bore nine, but three sons have since died.

Her husband refused to support the children's schooling, forcing Angelina to work constantly. After being chased away by him, she worked in Nairobi to buy clothes for her children. She only returned to the home after his death to bury him.

Today, despite her age, Angelina is the sole provider for her six surviving children and their own children. She continues to live in the family home, working late into the evening doing laundry and manual jobs for little pay. She insists, "I said I will stay with the children," putting their well-being first, even when she cannot afford food.

Struggling constantly for food, Angelina kept working, selling small items like sugarcane, mangoes, and onions by the road. There, she met field officers from the Mama Ibado Charity Foundation, who were looking for the needy elderly. They visited her home, confirmed her great need, and registered her.

The charity's support is vital. Angelina gets a monthly food ration, including rice, maize flour, sugar, tea leaves, salt, oil, and porridge flour. She expresses strong faith in this help, saying, "When I get that flour, I say God is faithful. God feeds widows and also feeds fatherless children."

In addition to food, Mama Ibado provides health support. Angelina attends the organization's clinic every Thursday for check-ups, a crucial service given her age and heavy workload.

Angelina is deeply grateful to the charity for providing the food she previously lacked. She is relieved that the support feeds her entire household, confirming, "I cannot eat alone and hide it from them." Angelina Indasi Madegwa urgently needs ongoing help. Due to her age and lack of income, she relies entirely on strenuous manual labor and the monthly food and health support to care for her dependent children and grandchildren.
