MAYODI ALFRED

Alfred Mayodi was born in 1955 in Vihiga County. He grew up in a large family of nine children. Sadly, two of his siblings have passed away, leaving seven surviving children. The family was made up of eight boys and one girl.

He started school at the age of 11 years old, entering Standard 1. He managed to study until Standard 7, which was the highest primary school class at that time. He had to stop his education because his family did not have enough money.

After leaving school, Mr. Mayodi first tried to find regular employment but was unsuccessful. This meant he had to find manual work instead. When he wasn't doing school work, he was busy working with his hands, doing farming, clearing land, and practicing small technical skills, especially repairing bicycles.

Through consistent work, he became very good at fixing bicycles, a skill that became his way to earn a living. People often brought him their bicycles, and the small payments he received for these repairs helped him support himself.

Mr. Mayodi is married, and he and his wife had six children, though one child passed away, leaving five. He shared that their family life became very tough when the children started to leave, one after the other. He said he does not know where they went, explaining they simply "left and disappeared." Both the girls and the boy left suddenly. Today, only he and his wife live together, and they often worry about what happened to their children.

His troubles got worse in 2022 when Mr. Mayodi became seriously ill. He developed both high blood pressure and diabetes. These health issues eventually kept him confined to bed.

As he went through this long period of suffering, an individual from Mama Ibado, known as Keya, noticed his very difficult situation. This led to them visiting him, inviting him to join, and formally signing him up for the Mama Ibado Charity seniors program.

Since he joined the program in 2022, Mr. Mayodi has been receiving important and steady help from the Mama Ibado Charity. This aid includes essential food for older people, such as milk, sugar, flour, porridge flour, cooking oil, and tea leaves.

His benefits are not just food; they also include necessary medical treatment. He goes to the clinic every Thursday for a check-up. He attends this appointment weekly so that his health condition can be carefully checked as time goes on.

Mr. Mayodi expressed deep thanks to Mama Ibado for their careful attention to his well-being and basic needs. He ended by explaining why this help is so important: Because of his age, his serious long-term health problems (high blood pressure and diabetes), and his inability to work or support himself, the support he receives is not just useful, it is absolutely vital for him to keep living and getting the care he needs.
