Mise Enirietta Khaombi was born in 1957 in Ikolomani, Kakamega County, and grew up in a large household as one of seven children.
During her childhood, she never had the opportunity to attend school, spending her early years instead at home assisting her mother with domestic chores. After this period of her youth, she eventually married a driver who frequently traveled the route between Kakamega and Nairobi.
Together they had five children, but their lives changed for the worse when her husband died in a road accident. Following his death, Khaombi was left to raise their five children alone.
