Motto Anna grew up in the arid Turkana region of Northern Kenya, her childhood revolved around goat herding under the blazing sun. Abandoned by her parents at ten, she was raised by her grandparents and guided by an older brother who roamed Kenya seeking opportunities.

At 20, after reconnecting with her brother, Anna undertook a life-changing journey to Kakamega to meet her parents after a decade apart. Despite their earlier abandonment, she embraced the opportunity for reconciliation, forming bonds with her half-siblings. However, her newfound sense of family was short-lived as her parents passed away in quick succession. Grieving, Anna leaned on one of her sisters, forging a deep emotional connection that helped her endure.

Years later, longing for companionship, Anna met a fellow Turkana man 22 years her junior. She bravely expressed her feelings, and he responded with unwavering love. “It’s like he took me out of the grave and gave me new life,” she reflects. Their shared spiritual journey led them to embrace Islam, a decision that strengthened their bond and brought them peace.

Now 77, Anna is dedicated to her faith, making weekly trips to the mosque on a motorcycle, carefully instructing the rider to go slow due to her age. Despite her enduring spirit, her advanced years bring challenges, including mobility issues and the strain of maintaining her modest lifestyle.

Anna joined the seniors’ feeding program, where she receives essential food supplies, alleviating her struggle to meet daily needs. The charity also facilitates her access to healthcare, ensuring her well-being in her later years. Their interventions have brought stability and dignity to her life, allowing her to focus on her faith and cherished community.
