MPELEO LETUPUKWA

Maria Mpeleo Letupukwa was born in a pastoralist family, where life revolved around cattle and sheep. From a young age, she learned to care for the livestock, which provided both food and livelihood for the family. Life was simple but secure; even the rain was enough to sustain the animals, and milk and food were always available. These early years were marked by stability and routine, and the family’s livestock represented both wealth and a sense of safety.

Around the time of President Kenyatta, the family continued to own cattle and maintain their nomadic lifestyle. However, traditions and circumstances eventually led them to move and settle in Isiolo County. Even after relocating, the family still had their cattle, and life went on, though the change brought new challenges.

After settling in Isiolo, tragedy struck when the family lost their cattle. Without their livestock, access to milk and food became limited, and daily survival became a struggle. The loss of the animals meant the loss of security, and the family faced increasing hardships. Food was scarce, and managing even the simplest daily needs became difficult.

It was during this difficult time that Maria Mpeleo began receiving support from Mama Ibado Charity. She was enrolled in the Seniors Feeding Program, which provided her with regular food support. This assistance ensured that she had enough to eat and could take her medication when she was unwell. The support brought relief, dignity, and a sense of hope back into her life.

Over the years, the consistent help from Mama Ibado Charity has significantly improved Maria Mpeleo’s quality of life. It has eased the burden of daily survival, provided access to essential care, and allowed her to regain some independence despite her age and circumstances. She is deeply grateful for the charity’s initiative, which chose to support seniors like her — a decision that has made a meaningful and lasting difference in her life. Today, Maria Mpeleo continues to benefit from the program, living with greater comfort and security than she had before.
