Nganyi Abdalla Mohamed, 73, was born and raised in Shiviriri, Kakamega County. His life, stretching over seven decades, is a testament to tireless work and deep gratitude.
Nganyi’s beginnings were humble. His father, who moved the family from Tiriki to Kakamega, could only afford to keep him in school until Standard Two. As a young man, he was quickly put to work, apprenticing under a local artisan to become a mechanic. Resourceful and determined, his career path soon diversified. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, he took on many jobs, including earning a meager Ksh. 20 a month as a security guard and later working as a supervisor at Mumias Bookers.
