Nganyi Abdalla Mohamed

Nganyi Abdalla Mohamed, 73, was born and raised in Shiviriri, Kakamega County. His life, stretching over seven decades, is a testament to tireless work and deep gratitude.

Nganyi’s beginnings were humble. His father, who moved the family from Tiriki to Kakamega, could only afford to keep him in school until Standard Two. As a young man, he was quickly put to work, apprenticing under a local artisan to become a mechanic. Resourceful and determined, his career path soon diversified. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, he took on many jobs, including earning a meager Ksh. 20 a month as a security guard and later working as a supervisor at Mumias Bookers. 

After years of moving from place to place, he finally settled in Ali Karim in 1998. In time, his wisdom and experience earned him the trust of the locals, and he was appointed as a community elder—a role he continues to serve in to this day.

Now elderly, Nganyi and his two dependents face challenges familiar to many seniors in rural Kenya. The limitations of age and reduced income make it difficult to sustain the household. His survival and stability now rely entirely on the Mama Ibado Charity Seniors Feeding Program.

The monthly food parcel—filled with staples like rice, maize flour, sugar, and cooking oil—has been life-changing. Nganyi shares that the supplies sustain the three members of his household for almost three weeks, significantly reducing their financial strain. He speaks of the charity’s founder with deep appreciation, recognizing her as someone who saw their struggles.

Reflecting on the impact of the consistent aid, he concludes with profound sincerity:
“It may look like little, but to us, it means everything.”
