Odhiambo Wellington Oluoch

Odhiambo Wellington Oluoch was born in 1949 in the Muyala area of Kakamega. He grew up in a large family where his father had three wives, and he was one of four children.

He attended school during his childhood and managed to reach class 8. He stopped his education at that level and began training as a mechanic to earn a living.

After leaving his mechanical work, he focused on providing for himself through manual labor. He spent much of his time working on other people’s farms and doing small business tasks.

Wellington married in 1973 and was blessed with three children, but two of them later passed away. His wife also died, leaving him to face life alone after their family land was taken from them by relatives.

He struggled significantly to find food and shelter, often relying on the mercy of others while guarding a compound that was not his own. His only surviving child moved to Uganda and provides no support, leaving Wellington with no family to turn to for help.

He learned about Mama Ibado Charity through field visits in 2023 and was registered into the program on April 1st of that year. He now receives four bags of flour, two kilograms of rice, two kilograms of sugar, two liters of cooking oil, tea leaves, and salt every month.

The support has changed his daily life by removing the constant worry of where his next meal will come from.

Wellington reflects on the profound difference the intervention has made for his survival.

"These are the people who have carried me in my life up to this moment, and I am truly grateful for the peace I have now."

He remains in need of assistance because he is elderly, landless, and has no surviving relatives nearby to offer care. The program is his only source of nutrition and medical monitoring in his old age.
