Ayekha Pamela Achitsa

Pamela Achiza was born in 1953 in Kakamega. She never went to school as a child because her parents lacked the money to educate her. In those days, many felt that educating a girl was not necessary since she would eventually leave home. Pamela stayed at home with her mother, and life was full of struggles. They often went without food and she was sent to sell vegetables just so they could eat. She endured this hardship until both her father and mother passed away.

She later met a young man in Matopeni, Kakamega County, and got married. However, her husband also faced many of the same challenges she did. To survive, she started brewing illicit liquor. This dangerous life led to narrow escapes from police, once falling into a river and another time getting burned by the brew while fleeing. When her husband passed away and her strength was gone, she decided to stop brewing and seek help.

Life was so hard that she had to beg a relative for food in Isiolo. It was there that someone noticed her struggles and told her about the Mama Ibado Charity in Amalemba, back home, which helps people like her. After a visit to her home, she was enrolled in the program.

Pamela now receives crucial support from the charity. As a senior, she gets essential food supplies, including maize flour, rice, sugar, tea leaves, salt, and porridge flour. Beyond the food, she benefits from health support, visiting the clinic every Thursday for check-ups and medication.

Pamela is deeply grateful for this help, saying, "I thank God for the Mama Ibado Charity. May God help her, because during times of hunger, I would have struggled to find food and I have no one to help me." She needs continued help because she is completely alone; she was an only child and never had children of her own. With no family or strength left, the charity’s support is her only lifeline.
