Rose Matunda Imbwaga

Rose Imbwaga Matunda was born in 1949 in Khayega, located in Kakamega County. She was the second of seven children in her family. Rose attended school only up to Class 4, having to stop because her father passed away, and the family could no longer afford school fees. After leaving school, she focused on helping her mother with farm work to support the family.

Rose married at the age of 16 in a formal wedding. Through the help of the Sisters at Mukumu Hospital, Rose received training on how to care for the sick and began working there. Luckily, her husband worked as a cook at Mater Hospital in Nairobi, which, like Mukumu, was run by the Catholic Church. Through her husband's connections with the Sisters, Rose was able to secure a job at Mater Hospital as well. She then moved to Nairobi to live and work alongside her husband.

She and her husband built a home back in Kakamega, but their time together was tragically short. Her husband suddenly passed away in 1977 after complaining of a severe headache. During her marriage, Rose had seven children, but sadly, four died, leaving her with three surviving children: two boys and one girl. Following her husband's death, his sister took on the responsibility of educating the children.

Rose is currently struggling immensely at home. She lives alone, and none of her surviving children are in a financial position to assist her. The most critical issue is the constant lack of food. Rose frequently goes hungry and relies entirely on the small help she receives from well-wishers in the community just to eat.

Her physical health has severely declined, making her situation desperate. Rose suffered an initial bad fall after tripping while leaving a farm, injuring her hand and leg. Later, she fell again, severely hurting her arm and leg while trying to cross a small road to ask for food. Since then, she has been confined to her home. She complains of severe pain in her legs and suspects she has arthritis. However, she cannot walk and has no money to seek a diagnosis or treatment at a hospital.

Rose is facing a critical emergency. Her inability to walk and her untreated medical condition have left her completely isolated and unable to secure food. The struggle to get a basic meal, combined with her pain and immobility, means Rose Imbwaga Matunda desperately needs urgent help for both food and essential medical care.
