Rosemary MukoRiungu grew up in a rural farming community, where life was defined by hard work and early responsibility. From a young age, she helped on her family’s farm, learning the rhythms of planting and harvesting, and often traveling to neighboring farms to earn small wages. Her days were long and laborious, and there were times when she carried her young child on her back as she worked the fields, ensuring both survival and care for her family. She worked on cotton farms and other crops, and every plot of land she was assigned had to be completed before she could move on. Payment was meager, sometimes 10 Ksh, sometimes 20 Ksh—but it was enough to keep going and provide the bare necessities.
