Rukia Musimbi Abdi

Rukia Musimbi Abdi was born in 1950 in Senende, Vihiga County, as the firstborn in a family of twelve children.

Her early life was defined by the deep economic hardships faced by her parents, who struggled as casual laborers earning only two shillings a day. Because her parents could not afford the cost of education, Rukia only managed to attend a few classes before dropping out.

Following her exit from school, she remained at home to assist her parents with farming and household chores, as there were no other opportunities available to her.

She eventually married into a family in Banja, Maragoli, and later moved with her husband to Kampala, Uganda, where they lived for many years.
