Sahra Hussein

Born in 1960 in Wajir County, Sahra’s life was marked by hardship from an early age. She lost her father at just two years old, and not long after, her mother also passed away. As the youngest of seven siblings—three of whom are now deceased—she was raised by her elder sister. Though she managed to attend school up to class seven, her education was cut short when she was married off at 15.

Her first marriage brought her three children, and the family later moved to Isiolo, settling in Kiwanjani. For a time, life felt stable. Her husband worked as a personal driver, while Sahra dedicated herself to caring for their home. But stability proved fragile. Marital conflicts led to divorce, forcing Sahra to return to Wajir before moving between Nairobi and Isiolo in search of a fresh start.
In Wabera, a residential area in Isiolo County, she found love again and remarried. Her second husband, a school cook, worked hard to provide for their growing family, and together, they welcomed three more children. But once again, fate was unkind—her husband fell ill and passed away, leaving her to start over, this time as a widow with six children to raise alone.

With no stable income and children struggling to find employment, life became an uphill battle. Two of her sons developed mental illnesses, adding to her burdens. To survive, she took up house labor, washing clothes for others, and relied on the generosity of neighbors for food. As rent became impossible to afford, well-wishers stepped in to assist her, helping build two small wooden structures within the school compound where her late husband had worked.
One day, during Ramadan, while seeking support in town, Sahra met the founder of Mama Ibado Charity. She shared her story of raising orphaned children with little to rely on.

Recognizing her struggles, she was enrolled in the feeding and healthcare program, ensuring she had food and medical care when needed.
