Shaffy Yakub Shaffy

At 70 years old, Maalim Shaffy Yakub stands as a symbol of lifelong dedication to faith and community. Born and raised in Amalemba, Kakamega, his early life was humble, but his aspirations were clear, he longed to become an Islamic religious teacher.

After completing secondary school, Maalim Shaffy pursued his calling with unwavering passion. He enrolled in religious studies and soon embarked on a fulfilling journey as an Islamic scholar. His teaching career spanned many regions across Kenya and even extended beyond its borders, where he devoted himself to spreading the teachings of the Holy Quran.

Blessed with ten children, though he has endured the painful loss of two, Maalim Shaffy eventually retired and returned to his hometown of Kakamega. Even in retirement, his passion for teaching has not faded. He continues to offer religious guidance and shares his knowledge in local mosques, remaining a respected figure in his community.

Retirement, however, brought financial challenges. Without a steady income, Maalim Shaffy found himself struggling to support his family. He is deeply grateful for the support he receives from Mama Ibado Charity, whose food hampers have provided vital relief. He also regularly attends the Mama Ibado charity’s Thursday medical clinics, which offer much needed health check-ups and care for his aging body.

To Maalim Shaffy, the work of Mama Ibado is nothing short of a blessing. He speaks with heartfelt appreciation for the role the organization plays in uplifting vulnerable seniors, ensuring they live with dignity, care, and hope.
