Shikuleseyi Clementina

Shikuleseyi Clementina was born in 1944 in the rural area of Shinyalu. She grew up within a large household surrounded by many siblings. Being part of an expansive family dynamic meant that domestic resources had to be stretched thinly among all the children from her earliest years.

She only managed to access formal education up to class four before dropping out entirely. The school system during that era offered limited progression for young women in her locality. Consequently, she had to stay back at the family homestead to focus on manual household duties.

Upon leaving school prematurely, her daily life revolved around strenuous household chores and local farming. She spent her adolescence working on pieces of land to assist her parents in securing daily sustenance. This routine of intensive physical labor formed the basis of her early adult routine before she reached the age of marriage.

She later got married and relocated to Shitao village, eventually giving birth to eight children, though two of her sons passed away in their adulthood. Her husband worked in a manual labor position at a town water supply facility until he was laid off in 1994, after which he became entirely unproductive due to old age.

Her remaining children, including her son Alex Alunganga, grew up with minimal educational advancement, with some only reaching form three while another reached class eight before passing away.

Today, none of her surviving children have stable employment, and they rely on erratic day labor while struggling to raise their own young families.

The family structure deteriorated financially over the decades, forcing them to reside in a small, semi-permanent house lacking basic amenities.

Shikuleseyi and her aging husband faced a severe lack of food security, often going full days without a single meal when her children failed to secure casual jobs. The burden of caring for her elderly, frail husband and three dependents under one collapsing roof left them vulnerable to severe hunger.

A turning point arrived when a village elder visited their Shitao home and noted the level of deprivation the elderly couple were enduring. He forwarded her details to the organization, leading to her formal enrollment into the charity April 1, 2023. She began receiving consistent monthly distributions of maize flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, soap, salt, and tea leaves.

The implementation of these monthly food baskets successfully stabilized the nutritional needs of the vulnerable household.

"We used to spend consecutive days wondering where our next meal would come from because my children have no real jobs to support us. This program has restored our family dignity, ensuring that my elderly husband and I no longer face the pain of sleeping on an empty stomach."

This continuous material assistance directly relieves her children from the impossible choice between feeding their own offspring and supporting their parents. The dependable food supply ensures that the aging couple remains protected from severe physical decline.

Shikuleseyi still requires regular assistance because her advanced age and her husband's total lack of mobility prevent her from generating any income. Continued support from donors is necessary to keep this household secure and prevent them from sliding back into severe food scarcity.
