Ware Abdulrahman

Ware Abdulrahman’s life is a tale of resilience shaped by unimaginable hardships and unyielding hope. Born and raised in Moyale, at a time when conflict was intense along the Kenya-Ethiopia border, Ware lived through the harrowing chaos of a violent ethnic and religious conflict. Just after welcoming her fifth child into the world, a brutal war erupted between the Muslim Somalis and Christian Boranas. The violence spared no one, leaving many young boys dead, women faced unspeakable horrors, and men zealously took up arms.

Fearing for her family’s safety, Ware fled to Wajir County, where shared faith and ethnicity fostered a sense of unity. In Wajir, she found solace among its warm, welcoming community. But when Kenya gained independence, her husband’s dream of a new life took the family to Isiolo, a town known for its pastoralist communities. Here, they hoped to leave the pain of war behind and start afresh.
Life in Isiolo, however, brought its own challenges. Tribal conflicts tore through the region, and Ware once again faced the devastating consequences of violence. In one tragic turn, her son—a soldier on leave—was killed by stray bullets while buying groceries, leaving Ware to grieve both her son and her husband, who soon succumbed to illness.

Now in her senior years, Ware struggles with mobility due to a shattered leg from a recent accident. She moves with crutches or a wheelchair, her nights consumed by pain and her days marked by fatigue. Despite her struggles, Ware’s life took a positive turn when she joined Mama Ibado Charity’s feeding program.
The program became a lifeline for Ware, providing not only nutritious meals but also a renewed sense of hope and community.

The support alleviated her physical and emotional burdens, giving her moments of relief from the relentless cycle of pain and hardship.
