WIYOBIJI ABIBA HAJI

At an advanced age, Habiba carries with her a lifetime of resilience, strength, and profound loss. Over the course of her long life, she experienced the joys and responsibilities of motherhood, raising eleven children. Yet, she has also endured unimaginable grief, losing ten of her children over the years. Today, only one of her children remains alive.

Having outlived almost her entire immediate family, Habiba is now dependent on a small circle of relatives for her care and wellbeing. She lives with her great-granddaughter, Halima Juma, who has taken on the responsibility of caring for her. Halima supports Habiba with the everyday needs that come with old age, including preparing meals, providing clothing, and ensuring that she is cared for with dignity.

For the household, meeting these needs has not always been easy. With limited financial resources, putting enough food on the table while also responding to Habiba’s other needs was a constant challenge. The uncertainty of whether there would be enough food for the coming days placed an additional burden on an already vulnerable household.

Monthly food assistance from Mama Ibado Charity has helped ease that burden. The regular food hampers provide a dependable source of nourishment for Habiba and her household. Although one allocation does not always last the entire month, the supplies typically sustain them for two to three weeks, helping bridge some of the most difficult gaps between one month and the next. For Habiba, this means more consistent access to food and less uncertainty for the family caring for her.

The support has also extended beyond food. At her age, Habiba is vulnerable to illness and may require medical attention when health complications arise.
