Born in 1952 in Wajir County, Zeinab Adan spent her childhood herding livestock, never having the chance to attend school. After losing her mother, she moved to Nanyuki to live with her aunt, where she later met and married the love of her life.

Motherhood brought both joy and trials. Zeinab and her husband, a military man, raised nine children together. But when he passed away, the weight of providing for them fell solely on her shoulders. With no formal education and no safety net, she built a small grocery business, determined to keep her family afloat.
