Growing older can bring challenges that make everyday life increasingly difficult, especially when health concerns and the loss of a loved one change the course of one's life. For Thiriti Angalimo, his later years have been marked by these challenges, leaving him dependent on the care and support of his family. Thiriti lost his wife, a loss that left a significant void in his life. As he continued to grow older, his ability to work and provide for himself also diminished. Having lost one of his eyes, he faces additional difficulties in his daily life. At his age, he can no longer work to earn a living, making it difficult for him to meet his basic needs independently.

Today, Thiriti lives with his son, Dahir Abdulrahman, who has taken on the responsibility of caring for him. For Dahir, ensuring that his father is cared for has become an important part of his life. He previously relied on casual manual labour to earn a living and provide for his father, doing what he could to ensure that his needs were met.

However, depending on casual work to make ends meet is not always easy. With an income that depends on the availability of work, providing consistently for an elderly parent can be challenging. Despite these difficulties, Dahir has continued to do his best to care for his father, ensuring that he receives the attention and assistance he needs in his later years.

It was during this period that the Mama Ibado team visited their village to check on the well-being of elderly residents. As the team went around the community, they met older people whose circumstances called for additional care and assistance. During this visit, they met Thiriti, marking the beginning of his journey with Mama Ibado Charity.

Following the visit, Thiriti began receiving monthly food assistance from the organisation. What started with a visit to check on elderly residents became a source of consistent support that has continued for approximately five years.

Every month, Mama Ibado Charity provides Thiriti with food to help meet his basic nutritional needs. For someone who can no longer work because of his age, this assistance has become an important part of his daily life. It helps ensure that he has food available while easing some of the financial pressure on his family.

Beyond food assistance, Thiriti has also benefited from medical support through Mama Ibado Charity. Whenever he falls ill, he seeks medical care at the organisation's clinic, where he can access healthcare when he needs it. This additional support is particularly important as he navigates the challenges of old age and the health concerns that can come with it.

Having access to both food assistance and medical care has provided another layer of support for Thiriti and his family. While Dahir continues to play an important role in his father's care, Mama Ibado Charity has helped address some of the essential needs that might otherwise place greater pressure on the family.
